In this case, as in that of the previous fanfiction (All Good Things... - set at the end of the finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation), I did not change the canonical trend of the events seen on the small screen at all, preferring to write something that could fit, in some way, into the trace left by the previous authors.
Writing this story, in particular, required no small amount of effort, both in terms of structuring the story and of references to previous episodes: I had always 'fantasised' about the possibility of bringing Lenara Kahn and Dax's new guest, Ezri, together in some way, and what might come of it. What has been published, which is highly satisfying, is the result of much thought and reworking, to make it as realistic as possible and as consistent as possible with the original characters.
PLOT. With the end of the clashes against the Dominion many things have changed aboard Deep Space 9, starting with the disappearance, at the hands of the Prophets, of Benjamin Sisko. On board the Cardassian space base, which has been in the hands of the combined forces of Starfleet and the Bajoran Militia for more than seven years, Lieutenant Ezri Dax meets Dr Lenara Kahn, Jadzia's old flame, for the first time.
